Bailiang Tea - A Heritage Hand-Pressed Dark Tea

A traditional compressed fermented dark tea that promotes normal healthy metabolic function, supports balanced gut health and digestion, and delivers gentle, consistent wellness for daily sipping.

Core Benefits & Experience

  • Benefit Profile: Iconic compressed Anhua dark tea, perfect for daily sipping and long-term aging. May help ease post-meal sluggishness, fight sedentary heaviness, and soothe mild stomach discomfort in cool months.
  • Tasting Experience: Tightly compressed tea brick brews into a bright orange-red liquor. Offers a smooth sweet sip with fungal, bamboo, and sticky rice notes, with a warm velvety mouthfeel that intensifies when simmered.

Key Features

  • Intangible Cultural Heritage, Handmade Process
Each tea is formed through 23 entirely manual steps, including repeated steaming and hand-pressing by multiple artisans working in rhythm—a traditional method recognized as intangible cultural heritage. The pressed cylinder then undergoes 49 days of natural sun-drying and airing.
  • Natural Aging, Evolving Flavor
Unlike accelerated fermentation, Bailiang Tea ages slowly under Anhua’s natural climate. This gradual transformation encourages the development of a golden bloom (“golden flowers,” or beneficial microbes) and a flavor profile that grows progressively smoother and sweeter over years.
  • A Tea of Singular Terroir & Form
As a unique “flower roll” tea exclusive to Anhua, it uses local tea leaves grown in mineral-rich soil. Its character is further defined by being packed and aged within bamboo and herb leaves, absorbing their subtle essence for a distinctive terroir expression.
  • Versatile in Preparation
Its substantial body and complex notes make it highly adaptable. It can be enjoyed straight to appreciate its pure character or serve as a robust base for creative infusions, suiting various occasions.

Origin & Growing Environment
Our Bailiang Tea originates from Anhua, Hunan. The region’s humid, subtropical climate and mineral-rich shale soil provide the foundation. The tea gardens are maintained using natural methods without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

Cultivation & Craftsmanship

  • We employ natural cultivation methods and harvest mature leaves suited for post-fermentation.
  • The artistry lies in the “Hua Juan” craft. After initial processing, the leaves are steamed, hand-pressed into bamboo molds lined with herb leaves, and shaped by artisans. The formed cylinders then age naturally for weeks, developing their distinctive aroma and the prized “golden flowers” through slow microbial activity.

Three Ways to Enjoy

  1. Hot Brew (Classic & Robust)
Ideal for a satisfying cup. Use 1 sachet per 300ml (10 oz) of water at 205-212°F (96-100°C). Steep for 3-4 minutes.
  2. Cold Brew (Smooth & Sweet)
For a remarkably smooth iced tea. Use 1 sachet with 500ml (17 oz) of cold water. Refrigerate for 4-6 hours. This method highlights its inherent sweetness.
  3. Creative Infusions
    • Silk Road Milk Tea: Simmer brewed tea with milk (a 1:5 ratio) and a pinch of salt for a unique, creamy drink.
    • Spiced Warmth: Brew tea with a cinnamon stick and a touch of honey.
    • Botanical Cooler: Steep cold brew with hawthorn berries and dried tangerine peel.
